History of Origami
The traditional origami paper was invented in China around 105 A.D. The hand made origami paper, that was brought to Japan by buddhist monks in the sixth century, was rare and only available to a few people. When origami was made, it was strictly for ceremonial purposes.
In Ancient Japan it wasn't always called origami. Paper folding had many different names and was had only been called origami because Origami was easier to write for younger children, so they chose the name origami for paper folding.
Origami was passed down generations by verbally telling and teaching. It was never written down in a book.
